2011 Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama!
Our 8th annual Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama will take place at Laguna Niguel skatepark on Mothers Day, Sunday May 8, 2011. Action starts at 10 am.
The official "honoree" this year is 1970s skateboard star Ellen Berryman, who will be in attendance and might recreate some of her cool moves! Our groovy event poster was designed by Patricia Kavanaugh featuring a photo of Ellen by Warren Bolster, courtesy Concrete Wave Editions. Click the flier to see larger size.
This year's event will feature both our Rockin' Raffle plus an online silent auction of amazing goods. Proceeds again go to Friends of Children and Literature, aka FOCAL, the Downtown LA-based grassroots group that brings the magic of reading to children in Los Angeles. This non-competitive event is open to all skateboarding women--both moms and non-moms (aka the "Sisters of Shred"). Supportive men are welcome, but please guys, think "Ladies First" on our very special day! More about that on our FAQs page.
Laguna Niguel skatepark requires full safety gear, a daily entrance fee of $10, and requires a signed liability waiver, which can be downloaded in advance here. Laguna Niguel skatepark has strict rules regarding admittance of under-age skateboarders who are not traveling with their parents or legal guardians. Please visit the skatepark website for details or check our FAQs page.

2010 Report
The 2010 Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama was held at Skatelab in Simi Valley, CA on Mothers Day, May 9, 2010. Our 2010 honoree was Ji Hong, the super awesome Sister of Shred!
Our Rockin' Raffle raised $990 for Friends of Children and Literature, a literacy group based at LA's Central Library. FOCAL used the funds to produce a week of holiday events in the Children's Room at the Central Library in Dec. 2010.
Thanks to everyone who helped out, bought tickets, made private donations and had a blast of a day!

2010 Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama!
LAST YEAR'S EVENT...
The 7th annual Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama will be held Sunday May 9, 2010. The main event takes place at SKATELAB indoor skatepark in Simi Valley, CA, from 1 pm to 4 pm. (NOTE: the morning warm-up at Venice is canceled! For those still standing after the event, some will session at The Cove skatepark in Santa Monica that evening.)
The charity event, hosted by the 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization SKATEBOARD MOMS and its community service project ROLLING FOR READING, features skateboarding women of all ages and abilities rolling for fun, fitness, and sisterly stoke!
Our Rockin' Raffle is once again looking to be stocked with awesome prizes. Proceeds this year will benefit FOCAL, aka Friends of Children and Literature, an all-volunteer group based at LA's Central Library, which has been hit by devastating budget cuts.

Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama ROAD TRIP
Our Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama Road Trip is almost here! On June 20th, skate moms and their supporters will rendezvous in Orange County, California to begin a week-long journey through California for stoke, smiles, and nearly nonstop skating!
The general schedule (details TBA as trip progresses):
June 20: Orange County--kick off at Etnies skatepark in Lake Forest, 10 am.
June 21: Los Angeles--The Cove skatepark in Santa Monica, Venice boardwalk.
June 22: Santa Barbara--Fillmore and Santa Barbara skateparks.
June 23: Central Coast--Los Osos.
June 24: Santa Cruz
June 25: Sebastopol and Santa Rosa.
June 26: San Francisco and San Jose's Lake Cunningham skatepark.
June 27: Mystery halfway destination.
June 28: LA finale at Skatelab, 10 am! Charity raffle with thousands of dollars worth of prizes!

2009 MMSOR
The Skateboard Moms, a 501c3 nonprofit organization, is gearing up for the 2009 Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama. Our sixth annual!
This year, instead of simply a one-day event, we are cranking up that Mighty Mama vibe and holding both a Mother's Day event PLUS a 10-day road trip in June. Whoo hoo!
On Mother's Day, Sunday May 10th, the Skateboard Moms (and Aunties) will gather for a morning session (10 am to noon) at Vans Skatepark in Orange followed by an afternoon skate (2 pm to ?) at Etnies in Lake Forest. What better way to celebrate Mother's Day?
In June, the Skateboard Moms hit the road for a 10-day Mighty Mama Skate-O-Rama road trip, from Orange County to the Bay Area and back, June 19-28th. The itinerary at present has us stopping in OC, LA, Santa Barbara, Solvang, Los Osos, Santa Cruz, San Jose and San Francisco. We expect to see some amazing skating!
As always, we will be offering our Rockin' Raffle with proceeds benefiting children's literacy programs including our own Rolling4Reading program. We've had thousands of dollars worth of prizes donated over the years, and we are SO very appreciative to our amazing sponsors, past and present!
